We define Adventure as...

To be in direct or indirect contact with the beauty of Japan's nature.
3. Spend time with locals who work hard for the community to sustain culture of the area and its nature.
To know and respect the local people who live there and protect the natural environment so that it can be sustainable.
Our Story
When I was a child, summer meant visiting my mother’s hometown—a small mountain community of around 4,000 people at the foot of Mt. Ontake in Gifu.
It was a six-hour drive from Tokyo. I would jump into rivers where ayu fish swam, cool watermelons in the clear stream, and watch fireworks burst overhead at the annual summer festival—a celebration the entire community was proud of.
Years later, I returned to find convenience stores and chain restaurants lining the roads.
There is nothing wrong with places becoming more convenient. But I could not help feeling that something was slowly disappearing.
During the pandemic, I traveled throughout rural Japan and encountered similar stories everywhere.
In one town, I stepped into a small lacquerware shop. The elderly owner told me that her son had moved to the city and there was no one to take over the family business. The shop would likely close with her.
I have never forgotten the look on her face.
Experiences like these became the starting point for Japan Trail Runs.
We want to use the power of travel to help preserve Japan’s landscapes, traditions, and ways of life for future generations.
Our mission is to connect the world’s passions with Japan’s local communities.
We call this Passion-Based Travel.
A journey does not begin simply with, “I want to visit Japan.”
It begins with something more personal: a love of running, a desire to explore ancient trails, or the curiosity to experience a different way of life.
On the other side of that passion are the people who welcome us.
People who love their local mountains, organize trail races, and maintain the paths we run. People working to pass their skills, culture, and traditions on to the next generation.They, too, live with passion.
When the passion of the traveler meets the passion of the host, travel becomes more than simply seeing a place. It becomes an experience that stays with you for a lifetime. That is the kind of journey we want to create.
